Devgad is a taluka in Sinhudurg district located on the Arabian sea in the coastal region of Konkan Maharashtra. It is world famous for Alphonso Mango which were first planted by Portuguese.These Alphonso mangoes are famous for it amazing taste, fragrance and deep saffron pulp. Another identity of Devgad is its beaches, harbour and Devgad Fort. The name Devgad is derived from the historic fort situated at the confluence of Arabian sea and Devgad creek.

Devgad used to be commercial port since ancient times which is mentioned in the greek book “Periplus of Arithrian sea” It was earlier named as ‘Togaran’ in this book. It is mentioned in the ‘Shivacharitra patrasan grah khanda 01’ that great King Shivaji built Vijaydurg, Devgad, Rajapur,Ajapur,Mapand fort. In the year 1722, Admiral walter attacked Devgad fort with the help of wadikar sawant but got defeated by the Maratha empire Kanhoji Angre. Devgad was the most secured fort in between karwar to Jaygad. After Angre were defeated, Devgad fort remained in the control and possession of Peshwa.

Col. Emphal won the fort on 8 April 1818. British built a small jetty at the bottom of the fort as a center of providing  fuel to ships during the second world war. After Independence, the Government of India sanctioned a big jetty and port later on which  is well established now. British built a building of lighthouse near the fort and the Government of India set light house unit which is effectively working.

Devgad beach
One of the places which you can visit first once you reach Devgad. The major beauty of this beach is that it is situated in between the two mountains and there are windmills placed on these mountains along with zigzag stairs that takes you down to the beach, the shores of the beach is covered with casuarina trees which gives a pleasant vibe and makes one forget about all the exertion. Not just that the shores of the sea have well equipped playground for kids to play and one can sit back and relax and have an amazing sunset view from the beach.

Devgad bandara
The very first thing that one can visit early in the morning is the Devgad Bandara where lots of fishing boats are been parked and ready to leave for fishing, as major occupation in Devgad is finishing one will find lots of boats colored in different patterns. This is a very good spot for photography where one can get various photographic shots of boats and local people doing their daily routine.

Devgad Fort
This attraction is on the right hand side of the Devgad beach. It is about 120 acres large and has remains of cannon, ikwa,tatbandi, burj and few ancient sculptures. Since the fort is besides the sea, experiencing sunrise and sunset from this fort would be all together a different amusement.

Lighthouse Devgad Fort
This lighthouse is inside the Devgad fort. Where one needs to purchase ticket to go to the top of the lighthouse. The major aim of this lighthouse is to guide the local fishermen when they are in the sea.

Sunil Celebrity Wax Museum
This is located on the main highway of Devgad. With an entry fee for adults one can visit this wax museum which has wax statues of freedom fighters like Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, to the superstars of marathi and hindi film industry along with celebrities from all over the globe. It can be said that this museum gives resemblance of world famous Madame Tussauds wax museum London.

Taramumbri Aquarium
This is situated 3 kms away from Devgad. This is small aquarium with various variety of fishes. Even if it a small aquarium, having an aquarium at such place is a good start for the konkan culture.

Taramumbri beach
Next location which one can visit is the Taramumbri beach. It is small beach with silent waves. The most important point about this beach is that it is less crowded and best for people who like peace.

Mitmumbri beach
The next beach is Mitmumbri beach which is on the way of Kunkeshwar. The beauty of this beach is that both the sides of the road is covered with casuarina trees and between this tress there is a way towards the baech. Passing through these trees not only gives fresh air bit also relaxes your mind and body.

Devgad to Kunkeshwar road
The major reason why this road makes up to the tourist attraction is the long sea that accompanies you throughout the stretch of the road. It is a long 3kms batch.During your entire ride the sea is just besides you and one can enjoy the beach as they drive along. In between one can halt and enjoy the beauty of the nature or click photos besides it.

Gajbadevi Mandir
Located in the village of Mithbhav, this temple is situated on the top of a plateau hill along side a beach. This is the cleanest of all beach with blue water ideal for swimming. This beach has a unique combination of temple, plateau, blue water beach and jetties. This making it the most beautiful attraction out of all.

Vijaydurg Fort
This is placed around 35kms away from the Devgad city so it is recommended to start early in the morning. This is one of the best maintained fort till date. It is recommended to take tour of this fort with a tour guide as there are various stories and incidents associated with the fort. Adjoined is a beach which one can again explore.

Kunkeshwar Mandir
This is a temple with ancient architecture which can be explored. This temple is also adjoined with a beach and it has got pandav kalin shivlings carved in a stone which is visible during low tide. So this is also an interesting point to look at.
